I first read "The Lady Liberators " story in a Marvel UK Annual. They were a big deal. It's the only time I remember my parents buying me any comic related material because as we all know " they rot your brain..."but unlike the weekly Marvel UK stories, the Annuals were in colour, a real feast for the eyes..
Since this was a commission that put the Ladies of the Legion in the spotlight, I turned to someone who has made himself a name in this era, Gene Espy.
I will be honest, I was a little worried that the art may be anatomically over the top with incredibly well endowded heroines but within minutes of chatting with Gene Espy, those worries vanished. He is not only very talented but he is a real fan of these classic stories.
The female Avengers Versus the males in a Battle of the Sexes, had not one but two counterparts in Legion of Superheroes history.
These stories can be found in Adventure Comics Issues 326 "The Revolt of the Girl Legionnaires" and in Issue Issue 368 " The Mutiny of the Super-Heroines ". The Emerald Empress seemed to be a great Legion villianous counterpart to the original protaginist : The Enchantress.
Gene's skills and passion for this project, shows in this commission. It took quite some time to get to the top of the waiting list but when it eventually was my turn, Gene was amazing.
Day after day, I got images and updates as he tweaked and worked on it. I have some of the images below as he added tonal effects etc but it was amazing to see. I HIGHLY recommend him for a commission. He can be contacted at the following address..
[email protected]Chris Ivy then put the icing on it with logo etc that blended with Gene Espy's beautiful work..
Enjoy.
