What you don't see is the kind man seated with his charming wife who appeared at conventions bringing these drawings of a simpler time unaffected by the 90's grim and gritty comics world. His versions of the characters stood true to the heroic ideals that made them the icons they are today.

Shelly's contributions may not have been recognized by the powers that be and went unsung for generations, but the fans knew with one glance at one of his works and appreciated everything he meant to comics. From the times that I saw him at conventions, he was never bitter and always friendly. It was as if his personality was an extension of the characters he drew. Ok. So maybe you would be able to see Shelly in the images of these Golden Age Heroes.

Shelly was never the hottest superstar artist, but he was always a hero to the fans and those superstar artists that followed.
