DescriptionI had purchased Eternals #2 complete from the Kirby's in the late 80's. It came with xeroxes of the complete pencils. I looked through them once or twice but never very closely. A few YEARS went by and I looked at them again. I found what appeared to be some sort of half splash that wasn't in the book. I looked through the series to see if it was from another ish but nothing. Finally I compared it to the published cover and story of ish #2. I realized it was AN UNUSED COVER!!I never saw the original pencils anywhere(I bet someone has it in their collection and doesnt know what it is) but my old buddy Mick Gray was so taken by the find that he asked if he could light table it. I said "Hell ya!" and made him stat of the mast head from the published cover to use and here's the finished product. UPDATE 8-28-13 (Jacks 96th birthday): I recently discovered that this unused cover WAS published. Although, as you can see, there is no mention of what the piece is, here it is in FOOM #13, 1976 (which unexpectedly showed up at my door TODAY!). All these years I thought I'd made a major discovery. (Although I guess I DID figure out was it was). Since I first shared this image here, w/ TJKC and Kirby museum I've see a dozen other inkers give their take on this (prolly one on ebay now) but Mick was the FIRST! Update 1-6-13: Added a scan of the xerox. I sent copies of the xerox pencils of the complete ish to TJKC many years ago and later to Kirby museum where they can be seen here: http://kirbymuseum.org/gallery/v/Pencil+Photocopies/Eternals/The+Celestials/ Social/Sharing |

You can enjoy an image of the original pencils in the Kirby Museum here: http://qurls.com?i=1747. Len, żdid you provide the Museum photocopies of the pencils of the full book for its archives? If so, you were very kind! I wish every owner of Kirby originals did it, because the museum is asking for scans of every Kirby page!

Hello - I just wanted to drop you a quick line and say I purchased the story (minus the cover - couldn't swing both) at the Profiles auction in Dec, and it will stay together for another generation.

Wow congrats! That's great to hear. At one time I had the cover double spread and all five splashes in one giant frame! I just sent a set of photo copies of all the Original pencils to Marvel who is going to make some sort of artists addition in the next year or so. I’ll be glad to send a full set to you too if you like. Just message me
