Description

The production stains notwithstanding, this is a wonderful page from a famous story arc, with classic pencils by the inimitable Barry Windsor Smith. The credits for inking are to both Windsor Smith and the longtime stalwart Sal Buscema but there is no indication who inked which page, although the inks on this particular page are nonetheless stunning. What we do know is that Barry Windsor Smith was to take (as it turns out, a short) sabbatical from this particular title from the issue after next. As Roy Thomas observed in his Foreword to Volume 2 of "The Barry Windsor-Smith Archives - Conan", "As he finished drawing #15, however, Barry decided that doing Conan had simply become too much work for him, and he felt it was time to move on." That very short sabbatical was to take place after the next issue which featured a reprint with a new splash page and a pre-Conan back-up story (also by Windsor Smith). To return to the question of inking, we might just have a further insight from Roy Thomas in the future who, in the same Foreword, stated that he would say more about issues #14 and #15 in Volume 3 of that series of excellent Conan reprints.
