DescriptionI've been looking for a Sal Buscema Hulk title splash, and this one really fit the bill, so I went for it. I just LOVE it. My great appreciation for the piece is a combination of the powerful way Mr. Buscema draws the Hulk and the fact that art from the 70's just makes me feel happy and comforted. I really didn't start reading comics until the '90's, being a bit of a late bloomer, but once I started collecting back issues, I found the 1970's to be a wonderful decade of comic history. And just look at the Hulk's face on this splash page. He's so pissed off !!! It's great !!! And Sal's rendition of the Hulk has him looking very musclebound, but not grotesquely so. Just enough to convey the power that the Hulk has at his disposal. Mike Esposito's inks are wonderful as well. And the caption ... "After hours of tramping through the high timber country of the Pacific Northwest, the Hulk has chanced upon the quiet little town of Gilbert, California. It will not remain very quiet for long." Classic! Can you imagine living in a town when the Hulk came to call? Hope you all enjoy the splash page! Social/Sharing |

Nice pick-up. Sal's Hulk, especially in lat 70's inked by Espo or Stone still my favorite. IIRC a few pages later the Hulk surprisingly is sitting at table eating beans....

The best part about this hobby is the thrill of the hunt ... finding the pieces out there that really speak to you, the ones that invoke the most powerful feelings of happiness, nostaligia, excitement, etc etc, and then somehow acquiring them without having to take out a second mortgage on the house. So much fun!

Paul, One of the best Hulk Bronze Age splashes out there! Sal Buscema was the most prolific artist in Marvel's bullpen in the 1970s! He stayed in the shadows of brother "Big John" for a long time; however, the past few years, comic fans realized what I knew a long time, that he was one of the best artists, period! To me he is the definitive Captain America artist from my youth, and one of the two best artists to ever draw the Hulk (with reverance to Herb Trimpe); he also had a superb multi-year run on Spectacular Spider-Man!

Great moody Hulk splash from a great period. The title saw a lot of great artists, but the Green Goliath will always be linked to Sal for me. Great decision to buy that one!
