Description

Walt's mother is mentioned for the first time, and we learn that the reason Walt is a head-of-household is that his mama moved south and left him with the house. I realize that these are not the most critical of turning points in the history of the strip, but, whatever. A friend of mine believes that Walt is at his largest waist size in this strip, at least since Skeezix' arrival. Maybe some will like that dubious distinction better.

In several of the earliest strips featuring Skeezix, King makes mention of readers who have sent letters with suggestions or questions about Walt's new life. It seems that he soon realized that he should be appealing to a wider audience than those who chose to write letters, and, fortunately, he dropped this practice after a few months.

This strip has some additional meaning for me, since it appeared exactly two years before my father was born.
