Of all the silver/golden age greats, Colan had the greatest ease and fluency with Black characters. He told a story once, on a panel I think, of his time in the service- Navy?- and how unpleasant he found a lot of the White recruits, and how warmly he was treated by Black enlisted men-- an experience which left him with a lifelong sympathy for the African-American experience. Great page! And I agree with you totally regarding Colan's respectful rendering of African-Americans in comics. Daredevil #47 - "Brother, Take My Hand" - is still one of my all-time favorite stories. Thank you for sharing the history behind Colan's relationship with African-Americans. I truly learned something today.

Yeah, DD 47 is an artistic masterpiece. I find Stan's writing a tad corny, but the artwork is incomparable. Thanks for stopping by!
