DescriptionIn October of 2010 I took a two week vacation to Israel. Many of my friends asked why there and also asked if I was nervous about going there. Being Jewish, my first response was that I needed to go there and see and experience it for myself and also want to see things because with all the BS that is going on, I want to see things before some Schmuck destroys it. After going there, I came back looking at Israel in a whole new light. I almost felt like that was more like a walk through the bible concidering the places I saw. I went to Tel Aviv, old Jaffa, Caesarea with it's ancient Roman port and aqueduct, Byzantine streets and Crusader ruins, Haifa, Nazareth where we visited the Basilica of the Annunciation built above the home of the Virgin Mary and the place where the Imminent birth of her son was announced to her, Tiberias, Golan Heights, Safed, Sailed on the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Tabgha, Beth Shean, floated on the Dead Sea, Masada, a mountain top fortress built by King Herod and the last stronghold of the Zealots resistance against the Romans, Jerusalem, Eilat (went diving in the Red Sea) crossed over into Jordan and saw Petra which was another Amazing site that was built over 2000 years ago. (For those that don't know, watch Indiana Jones and you will see Petra.) I visited Bethlehem/ the church of the Nativity, went to Yad Vashem, a memorial dedicated to the rememberence of the Holocaust.....very humbling. I went to the western wall/ Wailing Wall and even went under the wall on a night time special tour, Saw the Dead Sea Scrolls. I also followed the ancient Via Dolorosa and the stations of the cross to the Christian Quarter and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the Traditional site of the Crucifixion. Another very humbling expieriance as they have a Crucification Cross there that you can pick up and experience the size and weight of what he had to carry before being put on it. There was more and that 2 weeks went by way too fast concidering all the history that is sitting in such a small confined area. That is a trip that I would highley Recommend to anyone and everyone!!! I picked up this little painting from an artist in Safed and have had it hanging in my home since the day that I got home. Everytime I look at it, it brings back great memories of the trip and then sadness of what is happening over there. Hopefully someday it will finally end in peace. I still say,CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG....... Social/Sharing |

Thanks for your amazing travelogue. There's a lot of detail but it looks like this painting is on the smaller side. What are the dimensons??

Great Story and art Ken! I was there once myself in 1980. I guess it's true what they say: The more things change the more they stay the same.
