Description

Of course, I had read comics as a kid. They were fun, but never more than just a passing interest. So when I met some kids in junior high who were still into them, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I ended up with a stack of books - basically a cross-section of mid to late 80's books. After thumbing through copies of Marvel Saga and Booster Gold, etc and not seeing anthing that really grabbed me, I hit this. I think I reread this page about 3 times before I even made it to page 2. Changed me forever.

So not the best page, art-wise, I guess. But the text more than makes up for the lack of Alec and Abby. This shows Moore doing things with the medium that no one else had done. Villians had all been sort of relegated to silly schemers in comics. Out to make money or take over the world or some-such. With Arcane, Moore attempts to show pure evil. And I'd say he succeeds. I still cringe a little bit whenever I read the final 2 panels. "The returned man laughs".
