Description

A very sweet example of Frank King's Gasoline Alley from September 2, 1933, my favorite period of the strip. It was during the late 20s and early 30s that King's pen work really came into its own, especially when it came to figure drawing. In this strip, the boy's are drawn just beautifully, with a near-animated quality to the line work. Besides the drawing, I also am drawn to the gag, which refers to the famous Four Horsemen of Notre Dame's backfield during the late 1920s. Being a Midwesterner, King would have certainly been very familiar with Notre Dame football.
