Description

This is a photo of yours truly back in 1978. Was involved with Comic City, and next door we had an office area with an unused annex area that I took over as a small comic art gallery, The Comic Suburb Art Gallery. Partly as a public relations gesture for the store (we could get free gallery listings in the paper) and partly to show off my collection. Had about 100 pieces on display, ranging from newspaper strips, to politicals and underground art, to comic pages, including a display case that showed "how a comic book is drawn." We would rotate in a partial wall showcasing a local comic talent (Rich Larson, Jim Schumeister, Bill Fugate come to mind). And, yes, I did own that great Romita Spiderman cover pictured. Believe it or not, I had purchased it (framed) for $85 earlier that year. Within a year I had flipped it for $125. Who would have known.

What a great photo, Joel! Love the examples shown (though the caption on the ASM cover is a bit eerie after reading your story)! I like the hat: I didn't know you played for the Violent Femmes! :-)
