Description
William Henry Hunt painted a handful of self-portraits, but this is the only example where he actually made fun of himself. Hunt, looking much like one would imagine Scrooge from A Christmas Carol to appear, is dressed in his nightwear, with a scowl on his face, as he holds a teacup and vial of medicine. Hunt used the title of Moliere's great 1673 comic play/ballet as the title for a painting showing Hunt, himself, as a hypochondriac.
