Bushmiller: Nancy's Unsuccessful Culinary Rival, 1947

Another strip (see previous) from "new brainy girl" week, June 1947, in which Sluggo learns the hard way that, naturally, smart girls can't cook and make terrible girlfriends (just kidding!). No white paint on either of these, but plenty of scraping. Note, also, that both of these are on boards pre-printed with ruled panels (adjusted by the artist) and copyright info, as was Bushmiller's habit during this period. The use of the fence for the 'reveal' in the last panel is classic Bushmiller, and points the way forward to his strict compositions in the ensuing decades
