DescriptionWhat was i thinking when I sold this artwork back in 1980???I originally started buying and selling comic artwork back in the late 1970s when I had my comics shop, Eldorado Comics, while I was going to college. This is just a small fraction of the artwork we sold. I also was the original owner of the covers to ASM 200 and X-Men 122 as well as the splash to IM 128 and many other top level pages. Oh, the memories..... Man, I wish I hadnt stopped buying OA back in 1980. Thanks to Jeff Sharpe for passing along this old ad from The Comics Journal in 1980. I had forgotten many of these pages that I once owned. So nice to see this ad as it brings back great memories of having lots of comic artists visit my comics shop. I no longer own any of this artwork so its not for sale from me. However, I would love to hear from anyone who might own some of this artwork. If you look at the ad closely, you will see that I sold the page from Iron Man #128 pg 6 for $40 back in 1980. Some 30+ years later I was able to reacquire this page. Check out my Bob Layton gallery to see this page. Social/Sharing |

Wow, this is breath-taking. I really want that Byrne/Hunt MTU page. Thanks Jeff for digging this ad up, and thanks Dave for being well-adjusted enough to post this for all to see.

How did I miss this? And my own local comic store! My lawn mowing job would have bought a decent amount of art back then {sigh}

"Man, I wish I stopped SELLING OA back in 1980." You forgot to include that in your description, buddy. :)

Ha! I wasn't even involved in comics when you had this stuff. And didn't get into art seriously til a few years ago. Makes me physically ill to look at prices from the '80's. I remember being at shows in the late '80's where guys would have piles of art loose for $10 - $30 each. Gulp!

Incredible glimpse into our hobby’s history. While most of these pages are gone, the memories are probably just as treasured! After all, El Dorado’s namesake is legendary, a city of mythical gold!
