I always wanted an old, "curvy signature" Mignola piece, and snagged this off of Alan Bahr's wall at Emerald City Con. As I compare it to other early pieces, it seems like a step away from the curvy, Ploog-like figures (and signature) of the early-80's towards Mike's mid-80's work.

Alan had it for a bit more than I wanted to pay, so I asked him if he had any flexibility on the price, and he said we could probably work something out. So I kill a bit of time looking at other art, and then walk over to make a deal. He says "I've written the number you are going to tell me on this piece of paper," which he is holding face down. I tell him my offer, saying I know it's not the greatest, but it's decent and all cash right now. He then flips over the paper, which had my exact offer written down, and we make the deal.

That's some parlor trick. I did the same thing, only when Alan flipped the paper over, it said "GFY".

This is awesome--never seen it before. I agree, has that early 80s Mignola organic chunkiness to it, but isn't quite as rounded and bubbly--really a treat to see his artistic evolution.
