Frazetta - Encounter (Signed Lithograph - #495/500)

Encounter along with Dream Flight were the first two Frazetta lithographs I acquired in the Ron Hubbard series.
The lithographs themselves were in perfect shape, but the original owner had them framed in a cheaper wooden frame with a flat black paint which began to peel off in places... So, I’ve found suitable frames and re-matted the pieces for myself. This is the first of the two, the other will be coming up soon.

At first I was hesitant to do this, thinking I would somehow effect the value adversely, but it turns out all of these were done by their owners (I guess), because I’ve seen several pieces in the same series matted and framed differently. Maybe there was a choice to purchase the pieces matted and framed, or not?

Anyway, I had avoided taking photos because these were behind Plexiglas, but even without glass or Plexiglas, the glow of the lithograph itself still makes it difficult to photograph without reflection... There is some discussion about lithographs and prints, but in my opinion, these lithographs are a far cry from an ordinary print... The texture and weight and the vibrancy of the colors are outstanding...

Are they worth the money? Well, there are those who think the Mona Lisa is worth millions. I don’t happen to count myself amongst this group, but as with any art... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! For myself, since I can’t part with the money it costs to obtain even a nice original pencil piece by Frazetta, I am very happy having the master’s signatures on these and enjoying their limited status...

Besides, they are gorgeous on my walls… Now if I can just find Moon Rider, my collection of the 7 pieces will be complete... Tick, Tick, Tick... :)
