Archangel and Jean Grey are spending some time relaxing in his Colorado home, when they are joined by a miraculously alive again Candy Southern, the love of Warren’s life who had been murdered by his archenemy Cameron Hodge. Jean and Warren probe Candy’s mind, reliving the moment of her death. She told the story of how Hodge's agents in the Right somehow kept her alive after her "death" and then sedated her, doing some surgery to her body. Before Archangel and Jean could decipher whether this truly was Candy or not, Cameron Hodge attacked. He explained that he and Candy were both from the same "stock," techno-organic Phalanx creatures with the brain wave implants of their original bodies. After a short battle of wills and might, the Phalanx Candy sacrificed herself to destroy Hodge, though at least she and Warren were able to make a proper goodbye this time.

Shortly after he learned that Mystique had only been faking her mental problems, Forge invited Storm to dinner. They realized that they both had been partially to blame for their troubled relationship and made up again. Even if they couldn’t fully resume their relationship, as he now was X-Factor’s governmental liaison and as busy as Storm, they remained more than friends.

Candy Southern was murdered by Cameron Hodge in X-Factor (1st series) #34.
