Description

So, my youngest child graduated from college on 10 May 2013 and I wanted her to have something special.

She's a huge Harry Potter fan, e.g., she learned to knit so that she could make the Gryffindor scarf and she's read the book more than a dozen times.

Some years ago she told me that her favorite scene is from the Deathly Hallows where Harry is about to die and speaks to his Dead. In my effort to be a good dad, I made note and eventually scanned the appropriate pages to use as reference.

In thinking about an appropriate artist, I knew that Colleen Doran whose work I've enjoyed for 30 years or so was a big HP fan and did commissions. That seemed like a good combination - interest, skill, and availability. :) What I didn't know at the time was that:
I didn't realize this when I commissioned Colleen that:
1) She doesn't do many due to "real" work
2) She had been so sick that her productivity was impaired
3) She loves doing portraits

In the fall, I contracted with Colleen to interpret that passage. Colleen was great - constant communication and she delivered a day early. I think her work is outstanding here. She likes it, too. In a Facebook post, she wrote, "This is one of my all-time favorite commissions!" That's pretty cool.
