Description
I decided to do a piece that's separate from the distinctive Superman commission orders. I once promised to do a watercolor Superman as a tribute to a departed friend and fellow artist named David Burton, but admittedly at this stage copics is all I can manage at this point. Here's hopin you understand, man. Anyway, I thought of doing my own version of the Man of Steel in an iconic pose showing off his 75-years-young resilience and durability. What better pose than the infamous chain-breaking composition? While I was mistaken in believing I would be breaking (no pun intended) new ground by placing Supes in his new suit. Jim Lee beat me to it. He had every right of course since he designed the new look. Still going to try myself. This is my first attempt on 9 x 12 with mechanical pencil. Admittedly it's fine, BUT it's too stiff. It would've done the job on Shuster's day, but it doesn't convey any effort or motion. Too much like fan art rather than an homage. More as it develops.
