Description

This is a very special daily to me on several levels. It is from the famous Puce Stamp series of strips which is one of my favorite Pogo storylines. This strip is a great companion to the 6/21/62 daily I also own and it contains a cute "gentle" religious joke which is something I was looking for.

I remember my Mother saving S&H Green Stamps when I was a kid back in the 1960's. The Puce Stamps poked fun at them as you really would have to save a crazy amount of the stamps to redeem them for anything remotely worthwhile. Walt Kelly was a master of poking fun at several targets within the same storyline and the Puce Stamps not only parodied the S&H Green Stamps but incorporated a scathing political parody of Khrushchev and Castro during the Cold War period.

I really wanted this strip when it appeared on eBay and I unfortunately had a computer glitch occur which kept me from bidding on it as the auction was closing. I was able to get in touch with the high bidder and he graciously offered to trade it to me for another Pogo daily. Many thanks to John Fawcett who runs "Fawcett's Antique Toy Museum" in Maine for allowing me to add this piece to my collection!
