Description

Dune - Eye of the Storm
18 x 28 oil

This 1996 painting for the Dune collectible card game Eye of the Storm was used for everything associated with the game, from posters to card packs to boxes to tee shirts--one of the logos was even used on the backs of the cards themselves.

The version shown here is with the logo added digitally. Three type treatment designs were submitted to the gaming company--this is the second one. The first had massive stone letters in perspective with sand blowing off of them. The third font approach, which was basically this version with pits and rust added to convey the concept of decaying empire, is what was ultimately used.

All in all, I did over 40 pieces for the Dune game. I had greatly admired the Frank Herbert book, so the paintings were a pleasure to create--especially the ones of sandworms!
