Marie-Josee is a Quebecois artist who I have been following for over 6 years now. I was quite taken with here work when I first saw it. She works on large sheets of metal and paints and transfers images to them. In more recent years she has collaborated with Jerome Prieur who then engraves the pieces to add a different texture to part of the work. There was always a very limited amount of her work available but she recently had a large exhibit and I was fortunate to be able to preview the works and picked out two I like. This one is large, a little over 5 feet tall although certainly not here largest work. We met her at the opening too which was great. Her English is limited but not as limited as my French and we managed.
Although you can't see it here, there are often words and phrases in French on here images. In this particular peice there are two figures embracing. When asked about the piece she said she was trying to capture a moment. There is a moment before a storm hits when time seems to slow down or stand still. There is a perfection in this moment and this is that moment for this couple, the moment when time stands still.
