Over-sized art page from the mid 1980s.

For me, this was a landmark comic illustration effort of the 1980s by then newcomers Foglio (p) and Sale (i). It's just a spectacular adaptation of a very funny story by Asprin. Originally published by WaRP in 8 issues, the TPB is now available for cheap and remains a great read. Foglio also illustrated bookplates for Asprin's work published by Starblaze - see two other pieces in my Foglio gallery.

Of course, Sale went on to impress in the superhero genre and Foglio currently has a great run with his web comic Girl Genius.

Just as comics were running headlong into an era of ever greater grim and grittiness, Foglio and Sale, ever so briefly, held the darkness at bay by producing one of the more FUN comics of the 1980s.
