Description

Although Mice Templar was not published as a series until 2007, their first appearance was actually in a short story published in More Fund Comics, a fund-raising book for Comic Book Legal Defense Fund sold in September 2003 at the Baltimore Comic Convention. An anthology of short stories, it included the first Mice Templar story, written and drawn my Mike. I loved it immediately, and asked Mike at the 2004 Pittsburgh Con for a sketch. Unfortunately, he wasn't doing sketches that weekend, but enthusiastically agreed to make an exception when I told him that I wanted the Mice, saying that I was the first to ask for them. He took my name and info, in case he didn't have time to do it that weekend. Months went by, and although I didn't want to pester him, I finally dropped him a short email. He replied right away, saying that he'd lost my info but that he'd make up for it. When I got it in the mail, I saw that instead of a small, quick sketch, Mike had given me an ink-washed, cover quality illustration, 3 years before the Mice Templar series and pre-dating David Petersen's Mouse Guard by 2 years. The artwork is 8'x11' on artist paper and signed "Giddion - Avon 2004".

Great piece with a great story to accompany it! Thanks for sharing! For me it always adds a lot if there's a story behind the piece of art and it came to be or was acquired. :)
