Description

I've always wanted to meet Dan Jurgens. I like his work, own several published pages by him and realize the chance of commissioning him is remote, since unlike a lot of artists I like who draw in a classic style Dan has not fallen out of favor with the big two.

So when I saw his name on the Baltimore guest list, it became a top priority to get a sketch from him. Once again my wife to the rescue. As I stood patiently in line at Lee Weeks' booth, Amy zigzagged between Dan's and Sean Chen's tables, she got to Sean first who remembered me and assured her I would be on the list. Then, she raced back to Dan's booth who could not have been nicer to her, took the reference folder I had given her for Dan and then zipped over to Alan Davis to begin her two and half hour friendship forming wait in line for the Alan Davis, Alan Scott sketch. Meanwhile I endured my two hour wait for another artist, who was incredibly dismissive when he finally showed up. As first in line I was not able to get anything, but since I was also there to get something for a friend, who showed up just as the artist finally arrived and he was able to get something that appealed to him.

I finally wandered over to Dan and introduced myself to Dan who complimented me on my wife's persistence. I told him there is a reason Joe Staton has nicknamed her Adorable Lass.

As for the "sketch" itself, it turned out just as wonderfully as I anticipated. Like Ron Randall I asked for a second one ,but Dan told me he was already booked for the convention. Pity, I would loved to have another sketch (Al Platt-Atom) from him and so appreciate how courteously he treated Amy.

Beautiful piece ! It seems to me that Dan's commission works only get better with the years. He really puts a lot into them.

I've met Dan a couple times at shows and he was always pleasant and great to talk to, great guy! And another very nice sketch, you got some great stuff in Baltimore!
