Something from last winter that I just finally got around to scanning. Picked it up during Spencer’s last website sale back in December or January I think. As you can tell from looking through the rest of this gallery, I’m a big fan of Patrick’s work. Especially his Spidey covers. Just can’t get enough of them. Whenever there’s a website sale, well, for me it’s like an art buffet - all you can eat. And when it comes to Scherberger art, I can eat A LOT!

This one was probably an unusual choice of covers for me. No major villain, no full page shot of Spidey, not a lot of action at all. Still, I just really liked the look of it. I have no idea what the storyline behind this cover is, but the scene really makes me want to find out. Even without a villain, there’s a great sense of danger here. The really interesting thing is the layout sketch on the back (see Additional Images). While I love the final published image, the drawing on the back shows what it would have looked like without the two big hands in the way (although I do like the way they frame the scene). All in all, just another killer Scherberger cover.

So big thanks to both Spencer Beck and Patrick Scherberger for making this possible. Sorry it took so long to show it off. Hope it was worth the wait. I’ll do better next time. Because we all know that when it comes to Patrick’s covers, for me, there’s always a next time!
