DescriptionI hate the term "Grail". It means a lot of things to a lot of people. For some it is a John Buscema Conan page. Some a Colan Iron Man. For some it is art from the first comics they ever read. Neither fit the bill for me; that is nostalgia, not significance. It has to be something really special. And normally I wouldn't even post these. But, ever since I first saw Russ Cochran's reprints of Frazetta's romance comic art for Standard Comics done in the 1950's, I have wanted one of those pages. In reality, Frazetta did not do a heck pf a lot of solo work for comics (and a lot of the team-work attributed to him is not his, IMHO) but this is all him. Definitely. All Frazetta. I will say that this is not the story I would have chosen, but the page has it all. A pretty girl. Frazetta as the lead character. Soft lines. Diluted ink. This is the stuff and as close to a grail as I'll ever mention. Funny... showed this page to an old friend and he said, "That guy sure swipes Dave Stevens and Mark Schultz." I knew he was kidding and had to laugh! Social/Sharing |

I agree Wally, as far as a Frazetta grail goes, his romance pages are right up there at the top for me too. Some of the best work he did and the inking is the best in the history of comics IMO. Stevens & Schultz are definitely masters of the brush, but no one has the control Frank did. Congrats on a truly spectacular addition!

Gorgeous page, Wally! Frazetta comic art doesn't get any better than this (nor does anyone else's for that matter)

*Beautiful* Frazetta example; the folds on their clothing, the hair--all exquisite. Congrats!!

Absolutely peak comics... Frazetta's brush and pen work is supernaturally deft and expressive. Thanks for sharing this wonderful example of the great man's awe-inspiring comics work!
