I’m a boomerang fan of EC. I remember reading the stories in reprints when I was younger. I liked the tone of irony in (it seemed) every story. The stories, the writing, the artwork all seemed really “adult” to me, and I enjoyed the feeling that I was reading something special. It made me feel like I was more grown up. But, as time moved on, so did my tastes – more back to the mainstream superhero comics. Being a grown up isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Over the last few years, I’ve rediscovered the EC books, and have begun to really appreciate the high level of writing and artwork. I’ve always been a Sci-Fi fan, and you can’t be an EC Sci-Fi fan without appreciating the work of Al Feldstein. Arriving as an artist, he quickly became a writer too, and eventually the editor of many of the EC titles. If memory serves, he’s credited for writing some 500 stories. He took on tough topics in his tenure, and as he edited more, his artwork production lessened. At some point, he shifted to working mostly on covers. His style was clean and unique, and always drew your attention to the book. In all, he drew over 70 covers for EC.

When I saw a Feldstein Sci-Fi cover show up in the Heritage Auction, I knew it was time to scratch that itch.

Feldstein excelled at illustrating these iconic space scene and wrote the visual language for so many sci fi films at the time! A timeless drawing and another great addition to Museum Sonenthal!

When you look at such a classic image as this, the question isn't where you've seen it before, but HOW MANY TIMES have you seen it before? The numbers would probably surprise most of us. One of the most iconic space shots from comics. And of course now we will know exactly where we can see it. In the Sonenthal Museum!
