DescriptionOkay, this is a piece of art that Shawn did for me in 1991 as a design for a 10 foot balloon. Really. Some of you may remember the balloon I had hanging over my booths at the San Diego Comic Con in the early to mid 90s. It wound up being quite the conversation piece, as well as a meeting point of sorts. The funny thing is, when I had the balloon made, I thought the manufacturer would be able to just blow the drawing up and print it on the thing. Not the case, it wouldn't work, much like you can't turn a flat map into a globe. So the company I hired actually had a guy reproduce it, he drew ON THE BALLOON! Did a great job on it as well... it's the biggest original I own. I have it somewhere in a box, I'll see if I can blow it up and add a photo of it, for comparison sake. Social/Sharing |

Man, who DOESN'T remember that balloon? It was an aerial landmark for whenever I tried to locate someone in that massive convention hall. Forget about trying to tell someone what aisle you were on, I just told them to look up and went from there! :) Anyway Scott, I know you also had this used as a T-shirt (which I still have and wear), so it's nice to see you still have the original art for it. Always enjoyed Shawn's style of artwork and felt he was pretty underrated for many years.

Who can forget the balloon! Now the hoops one has to jump thru in San Diego to add any personality to a booth! Always great to see what artists started in this business with...comic businesses. We had Rich Larson as the one-man comic promo show in the Twin Cities. -- Joel Thingvall, www.wonderthing.com
