Since picking up my first piece years ago at Super Con (now Big Wow), getting a new Mannion piece at the show had become an annual tradition. But for various reasons (lack of funds, bad timing, and what not) it had been a couple of years since I’d gotten anything new from Steve. Not that I’m hurting for Mannion art, as I do have quite a bit of it. But I really do love Steve’s work and I can’t get enough of it. Plus the tradition was something I enjoyed and always looked forward to. Plus it was always fun catching up with Steve at the show.
This year in particular was really nice because I got to meet his wife and adorable little girl. And even though I technically did not have cash for the show, my buddy Joe loaned me a little pocket money which allowed me to pick up this beauty from Steve. Of course I wished I could have afforded one or two more pieces, but at least it was nice to revive the tradition again. Hopefully this will be the beginning of another long run. I really did miss coming home with new Mannion art these past couple of years.
About this piece. Not sure where this is from or even if it was ever used. I feel sort of stupid that I didn’t ask Steve about it at the show when I bought it. But I’ll find out and make any appropriate revisions to this description after I hear from him. Anyway, Steve really does amazing pencil work. I enjoy his paintings and love his pen & ink work. But I honestly feel that it’s pencils where his skill and artistry truly shines. This might be the least expensive piece I’ve picked up in the last few years, but it’s also one of the nicest.
Thanks Steve! Enjoyed meeting the family and I can’t wait to see you all next year!
