Description

For years I had a comment on John Bamber's page that said, "this is my favourite X-Men page of all time." I think that still holds true. I tried to pry this piece from John's collection for many years, and when it came available via auction I made my move.

I am very much a fan of the Wolverine/Nightcrawler/Colossus characters, and quite enjoyed the Claremont era of X-Men. Bolton captured both characters, especially for the early X-Men time period it syncs with: Wolverine is still an unknown, angry, snarky, jerk, but who has a fierce love for his friends and comrades. Nightcrawler is happy go lucky, a jester who is unsure of himself, his abilities, his worthiness.

I began reading X-Men with the purchase of X-Men 212 new off the stands, the same month Classic X-Men #4 came out. That issue reprinted X-Men 96, as well as a newly created back up story. This splash, and the story as a whole, left me gobsmacked; I had to know more about these characters.

Framed and on the wall in my office, to be admired daily. Signed by John Bolton, Chris Claremont, and Ann Nocenti.

Possibly the best splash in the run. Those Bolton pencils were super sophisticated. Excellent choice!
