Description

I was doing pre-convention research for and randomly googled Derek's work. Turns out he is a background designer on Adventure Time! I had seen his work, Pirate Club, previously when Andy Ristaino tweeted about it and dug the style. I'm a pretty big AT fan so I couldn't pass up the chance to get a piece done by someone on the show. I decided on Simon and Marcy due to the amazing history those two characters share. Derek was a pleasure to talk with and he did an incredible job.

Derek chose to have Marcy and Simon mid jam session which is really fun. I love the use of the #1 Babe drumkit, its a great reference. Marcy's pose is really dynamic and the punk rocker outfit is a nice touch. I really like the subtle lighting and layered colors. It is very impressive to me to see the precise coloring of water colors in such tight areas. One of the great pieces in my Adventure Time collection!
