Description
Stelio Fenzo (Venice, 1932), as many Italian artists of his generation, has worked on many genres of comics, but especially adventure and sexy-erotic, and he seems more appreciated abroad than at home.
His style is clearly influenced by the great Hugo Pratt, whom he had the privilege to meet from the start of his own career. Also, he drew stories of two characters originally created by the master, Captain Moko and Kiwi.
Jungla (created in 1968) is arguably Fenzo's most famous character: a fearless sexy heroine, defender of the weak, always ready to kick in the ass all those who threaten the peace of African jungle.
I especially like this page (which has been remounted with new lettering for its release in France), since the main character proudly declares its own name and its own nature, in front of a bunch of ugly and slobbering mercenaries. Classic :)
Also, Jungla's face in the second panel reminds me of Frank Robbins' gals...

I find most of the art in the Italian erotic comics quite poor but then there were some real stand out artists like early Manara, Magnus, Frollo and now I add Fenzo to the list. I think the inking is great and shows unconventional techniques only a master could employ.

wasn't familiar with Fenzo's work, I find it solid and particularly like the inking... great page!
