Voltrons by Joel Carroll

I think that Voltron may have been the first anime series that I ever watched. And it blew my mind. There were these huge robotic lions driven by brave space pilots, and they could all join together to form an even bigger robot with a sword! It was everything I wanted in a cartoon. After months of enjoying the show I was surprised and confused when the show abruptly changed and Voltron was instead a huge robot formed by fifteen different vehicles. What the heck!? But I loved it as well, and came to like Vehicle Voltron even more than Lion Force Voltron. I even got a complete set of Vehicle Voltron toys at Christmas, forming the biggest robot toy I ever owned. Anyway, the series dropped bits of information every once in a while that linked the two shows, such as Pidge and Chip being brothers. This was all made up for the American versions of the show, but I didn't know that at the time. Then, one Saturday night, Voltron: Fleet of Doom aired on television and it featured the two Voltrons teaming up! That was one of the greatest things I could possibly imagine and was the last I saw of Voltron for many years. Now, as for this commission, let me just tell you that Joel Carroll has a gift for drawing robots. He draws everything well, honestly, but his drawings of robots are always a favorite of mine. I asked Joel to draw both Voltrons for me, and he did an awesome job. Both robots look fantastic, and I love that I can see the individual parts but that they are clearly in one combined form. I also really love that I can see the lions' legs, as I never understood how they disappeared in the cartoon. And finally, Joel applied some gorgeous colors here, making the robots really pop. And yes, I know that there was another Voltron, made up of three robots. I even had the toys! But I had no idea who they were, because their show never aired in my area. *cue sad trombone*
