Description

A wonderful page with a lot going for it. I really enjoy Rick Leonardi's work, and have a couple of Cloak and Dagger pages by him, both inked by Terry Austin, who brought a firm, technical skill to the pages with his pen. This page is inked by Al Williamson, whose delicate brush strokes evoke a lot of Leonardi's pencil skills. If you look at work the Leonardi finishes himself, sketches for example, he himself evokes the looser brushwork of Williamson.

Wonderful draughtsmanship is at play in panel one, as Wolverine enters a room that has been tossed. But what I enjoy most about this page is the clever storytelling; the silhouetted Wolverine entering the room, to the establishing long shot, as he plays detective. Close ups thereafter, as the eye level changes from low to medium to high, over the shoulder looks; the room and the mystery are the focus of this page, not the special guest-star. Quiet moments before the story bursts into capes and tights high action.
