DescriptionAs odd as it sounds, the ads for Hostess Fruit Pies that appeared in DC, Marvel and Archie comics beginning in 1977 and into the 1980's were successful for both Hostess and the comics companies. DC and Marvel used staff artists (DC often used Curt Swan) to do the one-page ads featuring their heroes and sales of the cakes and pies increased. So, later, DC and Kraft foods teamed to do a similar series with Capri Sun. DC Special Products hired Angelo Torres to produce a six-episode strip that would appear monthly to advertise Capri Sun. I am guessing that these came from the mid- to late-1980's.This is Part 3... Rapids Transit. Dr. Standley and his group of kids continue their "Indiana Jones"-like adventure in Africa searching for and elusive fern specimen and as the title suggests they make the mistake of getting on a raft only to find rapids and a waterfall. At the last second, they jump on a vein and swing to safety to find Hairy the chimp waiting for them with a supply of Capri Sun Safari Punch to quench their thirst. Angelo did pencils and inks on these. He told me that the Fourth Episode was stolen from him at a show, so if you see that one please let Angelo know. Social/Sharing |
