DescriptionAs odd as it sounds, the ads for Hostess Fruit Pies that appeared in DC, Marvel and Archie comics beginning in 1977 and into the 1980's were successful for both Hostess and the comics companies. DC and Marvel used staff artists (DC often used Curt Swan) to do the one-page ads featuring their heroes and sales of the cakes and pies increased. So, later, DC and Kraft foods teamed to do a similar series with Capri Sun. DC Special Products hired Angelo Torres to produce a six-episode strip that would appear monthly to advertise Capri Sun. I am guessing that these came from the mid- to late-1980's.This is Part 2 where Dr. Standley and his group of kids continue their "Indiana Jones"-like adventure in Africa searching for elusive specimens. They come across Hairy the chimp who leads them into a lost city where they discover a giant diamond but the real treasure is... a supply of Capri Sun Tropical Punch to quench their thirst. Angelo did pencils and inks on these. He told me that the Fourth Episode was stolen from him at a show, so if you see that one please let Angelo know. Social/Sharing |
