Avengers/Invaders

Steve Sadowski is an artist who we see too little of. His published books are always a visual treat. This page from the Avengers/Invaders series is one of those visual treats. While the whole series was great, Mr Sadowski captures the Golden Age Invaders with a particular flair. The first pages of issue one capture the team in intense action. The WW2 setting, Invaders, and troops of both sides, are brought to life in a terrific action sequence. His attention to detail, and characters, is so dynamic. If I could pick one sequence to represent the team, it would be this one. These are the real Invaders. While not shown in my page, I love his depiction of The Golden Age Human Torch. The roiling billows of flame almost seem to give off heat. His, smiling, Sub Mariner is also spot on. In this page you can almost feel his joy at taking it to the Nazi troopers. Finally, his Captain America glides through the melee, shouldering enemy troops aside with ease. I, for one, would love to see a full length Sadowski Invaders story set during this period. Judging from these pages, it would be spectacular.
