***Mighty Spidey Friday Week 2 !!***

Each Friday I will be posting two pieces of art featuring Spider-Man (or a few times, other members of the Spider-Man Family).

This time is it's an Alex Saviuk Double Header.

This is the actual original art for the cover to Spider-Man Adventures #7, featuring a story called "Doctor Octopus Armed and Dangerous."
Beautifully & intricately inked by the great Keith Williams.

The pencils were re-inked by Rob Stull in a simplified style for the published comic, as "Spider-Man Adventures" was based on the animated Spider-Man TV show from the '90s and meant more for kids, so the art reflected this.

But this art comes from Alex Saviuk himself, who has expressly stated that this cover is the original version. It's an interesting case of original art vs published version. Nothing against Rob Stull, as he perfectly captured the feel of this particular title, but I personally much prefer the detail of Keith Williams' inks.

The way Saviuk captures Spidey's motion is great!! It's realistic, but almost teetering on Mcridiculous. Saviuk has some of my favorite Spidey imagery, along with Leonardi, in large part to the detail he puts in his background and creative angles. This is an outstanding cover! Congrats on another great addition Pablo :)

Thanks for the great comment Jeffe! I agree, Saviuk is famous for getting all twisty & angly with Spidey's motions, sometimes with a limb or two akimbo. But it's part of Alex's charm, and I also love the detail he puts into his art. I am particularly drawn to the intricate inking on this one, and the fact that MJ and J.J.J. are also part of the tableau.

I like this version better! The inking adds a certain gravitas that was lost in the printed version. Thanks for showing us.

Never knew Alex Saviuk drew such beautiful covers!.. I have always liked Spidey bs Doc Oc as one of my all time favorite match ups... Just hard to find art that looks this awesome of the 2. Very classic and with JJ in the back to boot.. Real awesome Paul! Congrats.. Lucky guy you are!
