Cable & Deadpool by Nate Stockman

My relationship with the X-books since Chris Claremont left them in the 90's has had its ups and downs. But one book that really stood out as excellent entertainment was the 2004 Cable & Deadpool series. Fabian Nicieza and a group of very talented artists (including Patrick Zircher, Reilly Brown and Mark Brooks) produced what was possibly Marvel's best book at that time, and it was always hilarious and brilliant. Anyway, I was talking about random commission ideas with Nate a while back, and one idea I had was to let him produce his own take on a Cable and Deadpool team-up. Later he sent me two possible layouts, and you can see those in the additional images. The one I didn't pick made me laugh out loud, with Wade replacing a baby Hope Summers, but in the end I chose this action-focused piece. I love that we have a totally 90's Cable here, with big guns and big shoulder pads, and a joyfully silly Deadpool who has an even bigger gun strapped to his back for later. Nate did a fantastic job here with the characters, the guns, the smoke clouds, and of course the layout. Big thanks yet again to Nate for always delivering awesome commissions!
