DescriptionShifting back to art tonight, and illustrator John Richard Flanagan, who did a lot of work for the pulps in the 1930's and 1940's. I picked this one up several years ago, spotting it while digging through a box of art and prints at the San Diego Comic Con. It's an unfinished, unpublished piece, but one of the few I have by him in color. TItled by him "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves", it's inscribed by him to his friend, Roger Glessner. In 1923, Flangan illustrated "The Story of the Other Wise Man". There were eight color plates, and stylistically this one is a match. I'd say this is an earlier Flanagan example from that period (he was signing his work "Jack" in 23).
