11x17" Strathmore smooth bristol. This is the second page in my Wolverine Vs. Sabretooth slugfest commission. I began with the idea of having artists do something similar to Paul Smith's fight sequence between Wolverine and Silver Samurai in Uncanny X-Men #173. I chose Sabretooth as the opponent because with their healing factors, these two could go at it indefinitely!
Jae was able to do the first panel as a pre-show commission since it was a new page. I enjoyed making the arrangements with him almost as much as the art. He's such a good dude.
I'll share this, more as a reminder for me than anything: I was on Art Adams' list for C2E2 and was next on the list when the show ended. The fates changed the direction of this fight. Who knows where it would have gone from there!
I managed to talk Jimmy into taking a larger commission. I'm pretty sure it helped that he found out we were having dinner together that evening and he didn't want it to be awkward. He looked busy all weekend, and I was sure that spelled trouble for yours truly. For some reason, he stayed up late Saturday night to knock it out. I. Love. It.
Not knowing when Jimmy was going to be finished made it tough to work out a follow-up. I had already paid another artist to work on the piece that weekend, but they left the show abruptly. It turned out there was just enough time left for Tom Raney to squeeze me in. That guy is such a pro. I love Sabretooth's expression in his panel! (and the rest ain't bad either)
I'd talked to Tradd about starting this page after Heroes Con 2015, but we were never able to hammer out the details. I was able to work it out at Heroes 2016 through his art rep, and he really came through for me. I can't wait to get started on page 3! I already have 2 people in mind, just gotta work out who the other 2 will be.
