In 2001, my late grandmother Pearl Franklin gave every grandchild a bit of money to spend on something really cool -- she didn't want to have it be an inheritance after she died -- she wanted us to all get something interesting and fun so that she could share in our joy. I went out and commissioned this wonderful piece by the great Gene Colan which hangs in my study. My grandmother knew how much I loved this piece and I think about her (she died in 2005) every time I see it....Thanks to Grandma Pearl, Gene and his wife Adrienne for this great piece and thanks to the great Roy Thomas who will be publishing it as the cover of Alter Ego #70 this summer.

I like art that has a story behind it. And how cool is it to have a commission be discovered (by Roy Thomas, no less) and actually turned into a cover?

A truly sentimental story about a splendid piece of art. If I wasn't so touched by how you got this one, I would hate you for owning it. LOVE this. One of Gene's very best pencil drawings
