Description

The published version of this sketch has been one of the most widely circulated paintings by Ernest Chiriacka on image sharing sites like Pinterest and Flickr. So much so that it is difficult to track down where it came from. Heartwood Auctions sells a limited edition print, which I would guess is authorized by the Chiriacka estate, that they have titled as, "No More Tears," so it's possible that may be the title of the story that it accompanied. I own a few preliminary sketches or paintings, and some are very nice pieces of art in their own right. This particular preliminary sketch, which I bought from the family of Sam Cherry, a contemporary of Chiriacka, is a far cry from the gorgeous final product. Although the gentleman looks almost identical in both versions, the young lady has gone from what I would call a Debbie Reynolds look to more of a Barbara Eden look.
