DescriptionThe late Charlton Heston said it best: "Soylent Green is people!"You know what else is people? This great comic art collecting hobby of ours. And this latest entry into the Common Elements gallery illustrates why. This is the second Common Elements artwork that was commissioned and gifted to me by the legendary Damon Owens -- mastermind behind The Brotherhood, the Dead Universes Project, Black Panther World Tour, Cage Matches, and other classic commission themes -- for no other reason than he's just a generous human being. Damon's concept for this CE couldn't be more brilliant, uniting Captain Marvel Jr., Max Mercury, and Green Arrow. You know... FREDDIE Freeman, Max MERCURY, and Oliver QUEEN. What did I say? Brilliant! And enthusiastically executed by artist John Heebink, whom I'd somehow never managed to get into the CE gallery before now. Thanks, DamonO. You've once again reaffirmed my hope in humankind in general, and in my fellow collectors in particular. This is Common Elements #133. Social/Sharing |

What the esteemed Mr. Rankins isn't telling you is that every year he attends WonderCon and -- completely of his own accord -- picks up all kinds of cool swag for both himself AND me, totally unsolicited. He then mails it to me way over here in Texas. That's the kind of big-hearted and incredibly cool individual he is. This was just a small token of my appreciation to a guy who wrote the book on class and kindheartedness.

Damom and I have never met but over the years he has guided me in my little project, I am guessing this is a case of " like been drawn to like " CAF needs more "Brotherhood" and "Common Elements"

But I definitely plan to rectify that, so be warned! :-)

That Damon Owens IS a nice guy! Very clever too! As much as I enjoy his Brotherhood series, I feel like a part of a Brotherhood with you guys here and other places! All mentors to me with my own theme! If everybody ever meets up I want to know!! Great commission Michael!!

WOW - combining the genius of DAMON OWENS (one of the best commission theme collectors in town) with the them of MICHAEL RANKINS (another in the pantheon with DAMON) results in one of the most clever combinations and stellar execution of a commission and theme on the entire CAF -- bravo, gents, bravo.
