Description
Christmas came early this year when back in July I saw a grail page available for sale.

I mean really...Joe Kubert and Murphy Anderson together on one of the only two Hawkman stories (that I am aware of)that they collaborated on!!!

This is from the second story in Atom and Hawkman #40, page 2, "The Man with an Inbuilt Panic Button!"

I was bemoaning the price to my wife because it was out of my financial reach.

My wife looked at me patiently and finally said, "Why don't I give you your Christmas present early and we won't do a commission for you this year?

So with my wife's financial assistance and insistence that the art stay wrapped until the holiday...Christmas came early!!!!

It is truly a Christmas Grail!

Enjoy!

Not withstanding a "lustrometer" which has some very sensual undertones, this is a STUNNINGLY AWESOME page. And again, Amy shows her generous supportive nature.

Kubert AND Anderson ?!? I wouldn't think of putting them together. Kubert's loose yet precise approach overlaid by Anderson's tight yet precise is interesting.

Lovely art, and an even lovelier story! I, too, lusted for this page when I saw it on that dealer's site. Congratulations and Merry Christmas to you, sir!

It's a fun page to examine. Anderson dominates in the first four panels, but bits of Kubert's style work their way into the art. That last panel, however, is (or is close enough to) classic Kubert.

Stellar gift, Michael! I can't agree with Mr. Finney on Murph's dominance in the first four panels... Kubert's classic layouts, including the Thanagarian star cruiser in panel 3, and particularly Hawk's head shot in panel 4 can't be dominated. Kubert's style doesn't "have to work its way into the art"....it's clearly evident from panel 1 on! Murph's inks do ad a lushness, tho, that makes this a powerful pairing! Outstanding, another to be proud of!
