DescriptionMike Grell's stint on Batman was always superb...however, his best work was on Detective Comics #455 "Heart of a Vampire". Not only did he pencil this particular story, but he also inked it as well...and the job he does is second to none. I used to own a couple of pages from this story and I have to say...stunning is the only way I can possibly describe these originals. My favorite Grell Batman cover has to be from the very same issue as well. When it comes to comic covers, I have always had an affinity for solid black backgrounds. This cover is a prime example...brilliantly designed...with figures that practically jump right off the surface! Never having seen the original or even hearing about it on the market, I decided to commission Mike Grell to recreate his iconic cover. As you can see, the result is incredible! He nailed it dead on! The logo and other blurbs are an overlay, but everything else is pure art. Anyway, I am so happy with this cover recreation...and look forward to getting it matted, framed, and hanging on my wall!Social/Sharing |

Awesome! I use to own 5 panel pages from Grell's Detective #455, sold them in 2005..."sigh". But! I have Mike doing a cover for me a the moment - BATMAN #287. Then, may commission him to do the splash from Detective #455? One of comicdom's best drawn issues.

I used to own the last two pages from Detective #455...but ended up selling them to finance another purchase. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Bernie Wrightson may have done the layouts for this story. Anyway, I think this story is one of Grell’s greatest works. Congrats on the Detective #287 cover recreation!
