DescriptionPer the Kickstarter, Mirenda is a comic about a jungle girl who gets a terrifying, possibly undead creature trapped in her leg and the world she discovers while trying to get it out. The story takes place in a constantly unfolding world of adventure and fantasy, and is told with minimal use of text.Grim goes on to say, "Why is there so little text? I want this comic to evoke that sense of wonder you feel the first time you encounter a movie or book from a far off land that grabs you. Those things that give you the freedom to learn on your own without needing to be told; that magical sense of discovery. Not to mention it's an excuse to make a super fun comic full of inventive storytelling." There are two issues so far. About the second one, he writes, "...our leading character meets a number of new people, learns a little more about the giant woods she's wandering around in, and even gets in a scuffle! Meanwhile, on some far off part of the world, people are asking around for details on a glowing orange skeleton." Note: He underestimates how little text there is - basically, there isn't any. That's okay though, you can definitely follow the main points of the story without it. The drawing is of what appears in the first issue to be a beast of burden - horse/reindeer class. However, I don't know anything about it. My usual request in these things is for a character from the story and that's what I go, but darned if I know much about the character! :) --- Update So, I asked Grim about the character and he wrote: I can't reveal too much about that character yet, since a big part of reading Mirenda is learning about the characters as you go, but I can say that he travels with the hunter/trapper Hengill on their journey across a snowy landscape toward a henge monument in the ice deserts. These characters actually get quite a bit screen time in the third issue of Mirenda, which should hopefully be available in about a month. Not much, but better than nothing. :) Social/Sharing |
