Description

Here is an excellent example of one of Powers' fine art abstract/impressionistic landscapes. He created hundreds of abstract landscapes, seascapes, and figurative works for his gallery shows. This one was from a one-man show at the Rehn Gallery in New York, 1956 (Powers had annual shows there for decades).

Signed "Gorman Powers", the signature he used for his fine art work. It is interesting to note that many of his SF book covers were also signed "Gorman Powers", indicating paintings that were originally gallery pieces that were later licensed as book covers.

Painted in 1956, this piece was done during the same period he was revolutionizing SF illustration at Ballantine with is innovative surreal abstract space scenes.

This was evidently used as the showpiece for his 1956 show at the Rehn Gallery. I found copies of the program of that show using this painting as the cover.
