Description

Bruce McCorkindale did a great job recreating Berni(e) Wrightson's THE SHADOW promotional ad - the only look we got of Bernie's solo work on the character! After Bernie's death, I was wanting to commission some kind of tribute to his work and thought of this example for Bruce to recreate.

Speaking of the original work, Bruce commented "this was peak Bernie. It really has all the best elements: storytelling, dramatic lighting, brilliant brushwork...it's a doozy." About the recreation Bruce mentioned "Hopefully, I did Bernie justice. I always try to put in 100% with these, but I would say I might have gone closer to 120% on this one.. :) I really enjoyed trying to capture Bernie's magic, even if it was bittersweet at times. It was hard work but very satisfying. Bernie has always been one of my top guys, and it's a great learning experience trying to study his work."

In the additional images you will find a photo of the beginnings of the recreation. Pen, brush and ink on 13 X 20" bristol board.

This is my favorite picture of the Shadow. It is the essence of the Shadow-illuminated by the 45's while shrouded in the dark. Great recreation.
